If you are an eBook lover like I am then these are exciting times. It's been more than ten years since I started working with eBooks and eBook authors. Ten years ago I was like a lot of people and didn't even know what an eBook was. I am still addressing that question when I try tell people about what I am doing in retirement.
I have to spend quite a bit of time explaining what an eBook actually is and what it is I do with clients who want to write and publish one. I must admit I have to do this explaining more with the more mature, of which I am one, members of society but that seems to be changing. And this is where the excitement comes in.
In just the last few weeks and months I am noticing more and more positive press about eBooks. It seems that publishing companies have come to realize there is money to be made in eBooks. And the introduction of reading instruments like the Kindle and many others coming on the market are making it easier and easier to carry with you hundreds of eBooks and read them anywhere and any time.
It is also interesting to note that there is software available and being developed that will allow eBooks to be read on phones and other portable communication devices. It appears that more and more society is falling in love with and getting more addicted to portable communication devices. This new generation of information consumers is demanding that their devices do as many things as possible.
Being able to have virtually everything you could possibly want at your immediate disposal, including eBooks, is radically changing the way the world views eBooks. I personally don't see the standard print media disappearing but it sure could stand for some changes. The publishing industry must be wondering what is happening to them.
The new publishing option is the eBook and although it isn't really new it is just recently coming out as a publishing option that is both practical for today's technology and successful as an entrepreneurial endeavour.
I am truly excited. On a more personal note, I can hardly wait to see the Kindle offered in Canada complete with the wireless downloading capability. I'd like to put my order in right now. Are there any of you from outside the USA who feel the same way?
